Mouse!

Quite some time has passed since I last blogged. In that time our computer died and has been brought back to life with a new hard drive; we have had visitors (more in another post) and we still have no power on our island.
But for now...
Over the last couple of days we have become aware of a presence in our kitchen. In the morning's we would find half eaten vegetables in the veggie basket and ominous black droppings in strange places. The obvious conclusion was that we had a mouse.
It's all very well knowing this, but finding the thing is another matter entirely. For the last couple of nights we have systematically cut off all exits to the kitchen to discover that the creature must be living somewhere in the kitchen itself - delightful! Then this evening Rich found it in the fridge! Our fridge has been off for the last few weeks because keeping it cold has been too much like hard work with the lack of power here. The door had therefore been left ajar and one of the shelves in the bottom is being used to store our English chocolate supply.

However, whilst trying to get a photo, the mouse made it's move and escaped across the kitchen and underneath the oven where it seemed to vanish into thin air.

Rich trying to persuade the mouse to come out and the barricade across the kitchen to stop it from escaping again.

However, after pulling the oven out it was clear that the only other option left was to look inside the oven itself. So Rich took his trusty screwdriver (aka Stanley) and began to dismantle the oven. (The oven has been inactive for the last three months due to no power remember!)
Eventually Rich poked the right part of the oven and out popped the mouse. After running around the kitchen like a headless chicken for several minutes, it eventually found the door we had kindly left open for it and decided to make his exit.

This is our kitchen after the whole event. You will all be pleased to know that I stood bravely by on top of two tins of powdered milk taking photo's whilst screeching very loudly:)

  1. You need to have Mum and Dad to stay again! We had a mouse terrorising our kitchen and Dad spent two nights getting up every 2-3 hours (his choice!) trying to corner it. Mum didn't get much sleep but the mouse was caught in the end. We had to take it for a drive at 6:30am because apparently you have to take them at least a mile away from a good source of food or they will always come back..... Beware! Jo

  2. Oh you're so part of the Osborn family! - see Jonny and Es and also Jon and Jo for more furry friend stories! Paula, noticed your photos were from a great height and can identify with this having been on hand (or rather standing on bed) for Jo's similiar visitation! Val x

  3. We had also a kitchen-mouse for a very long time. As we caught it, we released it outside our gate and it never come back.It went straight ahead to the gate from our neighbors.
